FORECAST
A colonial garden sustained by the glow of apocalyptic visions.
“Forecast” reveals a continuity between colonial botany and the contemporary destruction of our planet.
This device consists of a metal structure holding six monitors, with a small garden placed in the space created by the screens. The top part of the device, which echoes the aesthetics of colonial structures like Wardian cases or greenhouses, prevents any sunlight from entering the inner space.
The garden can be considered a “colonial garden” because it contains several plants that were extracted from European colonies and introduced to the continent by explorers and botanists. The screens, which play a collection of apocalyptic films, serve an important role in keeping the garden alive with their eerie light.
The device is sealed from the viewer’s eyes, except for a small lens on top that allows people to look inside this ecosystem, which is illuminated by the TV screens facing inward.
